Bethany recently moved from Halifax, Nova Scotia (unceded Mi'kmaq territory) to Vancouver Island, where she lives on unceded Snuneymuxw land. She got involved in the climate justice movement through the fossil fuel divestment movement while doing her undergrad and graduate work at the University of King's College and at Dalhousie University. She's passionate about climate communication, and she's glad to be returning to COP with the CYD for a second year.
She looks forward to keeping pressure on the Canadian federal government to meet Paris targets, implement UNDRIP, meet its obligations to vulnerable nations suffering loss and damage, and commit to plans for a justice-based clean energy transition that protects workers and prioritizes front line communities. This year, Bethany plans to play a support role on the CYD, liaising with the Home Team and helping with delegation communications.
